so tonight, chris russo BROUGHT it at theWell tonight as we continued studying through the book of Romans. tonight, the verse that was focused on was Romans 1:16
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek."
two key passages that are in this Scripture that really hammer home the power and intensity of this verse are: not ashamed and power of God.
i think Chris put it greatly when he said that being ashamed means we have a fear or rejection or disapproval. we can be ashamed of something about us, hidden fears or secrets, our past. but we shouldn't be ashamed of the Gospel because it is GOOD NEWS!!
Jesus came to earth to redeem us from our sin. And there is nothing we could ever do to deserve this. He came to bridge the gap between us and God. And it was all based on His goodness, not ours.
Chris also hammered home the Greek word "dynamus" which was translated into power in our Scripture today. But dynamus literally means strength and amazing power (think DYNAMITE). but it's something that we should carry with us at all times as believers: knowing that it is by the power of God that we are alive and have the amazing gift of eternal life.
think about it...
if you're not ashamed of something, if you're proud of something, you want to share it with the world!
i know when i got my job in Charleston, the first thing i did was post on Facebook (well, actually it was like the third. first, i called Kim to let her know i got the job; second, i texted all my friends, and third, i posted a facebook status)
same for my half marathon. (first, i called kelsey because i promised she'd be the first to know. then i called brooke. then texted a picture of my sweaty, gross self with my medal and bib to my friends and to facebook).
i wasn't ashamed of those things.
but am i bold enough to share the Gospel with those around me?
we are called to be BOLD! for the sake of sharing the Gospel.
we are called to be BOLD! about sharing the amazing power of God and displaying what it means for us in our lives.
i know i've struggled lately with being bold about sharing my faith.
sure, it's easy to blog about my life and how my faith intertwines with my daily adventures.
but am i pursuing Christ, am i truly being bold in sharing my faith with others? probably not.
it's nothing i should ever be ashamed about.
because the power of God for salvation changes lives. forever!
