this beautiful so-long-self life.

inspiration: two MercyMe songs that have been stuck in my head the last few days.

lately, i've been struggling with a lot of insecurity.
i'm not where i want to be fitness-wise.
i'm not as healthy as i want to be.
for whatever reason, i haven't been as active as i want and desire to be.

body image is a touchy subject for me (as it is for everyone).
i'm not tall.
i'm not curvy.
i struggle finding clothes that fit right and look right.
...and the list goes on and on.

"The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7b)

but yesterday morning, i was listening to Beautiful by MercyMe.

You're beautiful, you're beautiful
You are made for so much more than all of this
You're beautiful, you're beautiful
You are treasured, you are sacred, you are His
You're beautiful

Before you ever took a breath
Long before the world began
Of all the wonders He possessed
There was one more precious
Of all the earth and skies above
You're the one He madly loves
Enough to die!

talk about powerful! i love this song so much that i ended up buying The Generous Mr. Lovewell album. and the first song that's on the album is This Life. and it is probably one of my new favorite songs...

(...and not gonna lie, the beginning beats always remind me of Ke$ha's song "Your Love is My Drug". but, of course, this song is much better!)

this life (oh oh oh)
this life was meant to shine
this life (oh oh oh)
this life was meant to shine

its in my heart
its in my soul
I'll live everday
just to make You known

it's a powerful testament to who i am and what i'm here for: to shine for Christ!
and it was a great reminder that's it's not about me and not about what i look like...
my life is meant to be a reflection of my heart for Christ, not what i see when i see my reflection in the mirror.

and this song isn't on The Generous Mr. Lovewell album, but it's an awesome song, nonetheless, about living for Christ and not myself.

So long, self
Well, it's been fun, but I have found somebody else
So long, self
There's just no room for two
So you are gonna have to move
So long, self
Don't take this wrong but you are wrong for me, farewell
Oh well, goodbye, don't cry
So long, self

...so this is what it is:
1) i'm beautiful because i was made by God and loved dearly by Christ
2) my life is meant to be a powerful light for Christ and my love for Him
3) i am not worried about the selfish desires of the world because i want my life to be about Christ

(and if you haven't caught it yet, this blog title is a mash-up of those three song titles: This Life, Beautiful, and So Long Self ;))
